Lex,

Thanks again for considering Dwight for the NIU integration. As we discussed, I’m confident in his abilities—he’s already shown a strong commitment to the job. But I want to tread carefully here. Dwight is still primarily a Brightside officer, and the idea of him signing a Noxis contract so early on worries me.

I’ve seen promising officers get overwhelmed by new roles before they fully understood the consequences. Dwight needs to know what he’s stepping into before making any formal commitments, especially with something as binding as a contract with Noxis.

Is there any way we can bring him in on a trial basis without the formal agreement, at least until he feels comfortable? I want to protect him from diving in too quickly.

Best,
Enola

Enola,

I understand your concern, and I appreciate the care you’re taking with Dwight’s future. He’s a valuable asset—his potential with the NIU could be exactly what we’ve been looking for to strengthen our operations.

The contract is standard, nothing more than a protective measure to ensure confidentiality and alignment. In fact, it’s as much for Dwight’s protection as it is for Noxis. Without it, there are liabilities we simply can’t afford, and more importantly, it ensures Dwight has access to resources he won’t find anywhere else.

This isn’t about locking him into something he can’t handle—it’s about preparing him for the reality of the world he’s about to enter. The world isn’t as clean as we’d like to believe, and if he’s to work alongside the NIU, he needs to understand that our methods go beyond the usual police playbook.

Let me walk him through the contract personally. I’ll make sure he’s comfortable with it and fully aware of what he’s signing. After all, this is about setting him up for long-term success.

Best regards,
Lex Graves

Enola,

I get it—you're looking out for your guy. But here’s the thing: Dwight won’t get far in NIU without signing. It’s non-negotiable. The work we do operates under different rules, and if Dwight wants in, he needs to be fully onboard.

The contract is about more than just protection—it’s about commitment. If Dwight’s serious about making an impact in this city, we need to know he’s with us, not just with one foot in the door.

Lex will handle this as smoothly as possible, but delaying this step isn’t going to help anyone. If Dwight wants access to our resources and to truly make a difference, he needs to take that first step. It’s the same one we’ve all taken.

Let’s keep this moving. I trust you’ll help Dwight understand what’s at stake here.

Lex, Dougie,

I see your point. I want Dwight to succeed as much as you do—maybe more. If the contract is truly just a formality, then I’m willing to let this move forward. Dwight trusts me, and I don’t want to damage that trust, but I also don’t want to hold him back from an opportunity that could define his career.

I’ll do what I can to help Dwight see it your way. I trust you’ll be clear with him, Lex. I’ll send him this email chain for context so he knows we’ve had these discussions.

I’ll talk to him soon.

Best,
Enola

Hey Dwight,

I wanted to make sure you’re in the loop about what’s been happening behind the scenes with the NIU. Lex and Dougie are pushing for you to sign a contract with Noxis before you start working with them. To be honest, I was hesitant about it. I know how you operate—you’re not one to be tied down by formalities, especially with private corporations.

But they’ve made it clear that this contract is standard procedure, and it's more about securing access to their resources than locking you into something long-term. I’m still keeping an eye on things, but I think this could be a real opportunity for you—if you want it. Just make sure you go into this with your eyes open.

I’m attaching the email chain so you can see for yourself. We’ll talk more when I come by your office. Let’s make sure this feels right for you before you take the plunge. We’ve been through too much for you to get burned by something like this.

I’ll see you soon.

Subject: Looking Forward to Working with You

Dwight,

I’ve heard good things about you, and I’m looking forward to having you with us at the Noxis Intelligence Unit. You’ve got the kind of experience and perspective we value—someone who understands that the world isn’t always black and white.

I know you’re familiar with The Repentant Sinner. I used to spend some time there myself, back in the day. Always found Helen easy to get along with. She’s sharp—sees things others miss. Raven was the same when she was around. The kind of people who know how to keep their heads down and navigate this city’s... complexities.

I think you’ll find working with the NIU is a bit like that. We deal with things most people would rather ignore, but with the right support, you can get ahead of it all. When we sit down, I’ll walk you through the details—make sure you’ve got everything you need.

I’m confident you’ll fit right in.
